Casqade is a new integrated software package which is being developed to model the physical effects which occur following a release of hydrocarbons or other chemicals. As its name suggests, the software has been designed to follow the natural flow of these processes and cascade the user through an appropriate set of models from the initial release source through to final outcome.
An initial storage/process inventory is defined by the user in terms of the material being considered and the temperature and pressure of the storage/process conditions. The user also defines a potential release scenario, for example a rupture of a vessel, or a hole in a pipeline system. Then the code will direct the user to an appropriate source term model and perform calculations to estimate the flowrate associated with the release. This release description will then cascade to the correct type of model to estimate vapor dispersion distances, and if relevant fire thermal radiation and explosion overpressure distances.
